Spreader Knife
Why is a Spreader Knife Necessity At The Dinner Table
It's no secret that tableware is a
necessity for all kinds of foodservice operations. Whether you need to be
outfitted with plates, cups, or other items, there are many different types of
tableware to choose from. While you may already know a lot about the different
types of plates and bowls that are available, there are also many other items
that are useful in your operation. One such item is a spreader knife.
There are a few things we use in our
day-to-day lives that we take for granted. A spreader knife is one of them. You might not think about how many
times you use it or the fact that you use it before you even sit down to eat.
However, as you will see, spreader knives are an important part of your
tableware setup.
Spreader knives are used for spreading
butter and other soft spreads onto bread and crackers. It can also be used with
other soft condiments including cheese spreads and peanut butter. Spreader
knives come in a variety of styles including wood, plastic, stainless steel and
acrylic handles to match your other tableware items.
Most people have several different types of
spreads they like to use on their bread and crackers. For example, some people
like plain butter while others like flavored butter such as garlic or herb
butter. Having a set of spreader knives allows you to designate each one for a
specific type of spread so there is no cross-contamination between flavors.
Spreader knives are also handy for serving
cheeses and other soft foods at parties or family gatherings. Spreader knives
have shorter blades than table knives, and the tip of the blade is blunt. As
such, they cannot be used to cut food at the table. They are usually made of
stainless steel, but may also be made of plastics or other materials.
